Heart Strings

There is a saying that I am sure you all have heard before ” That tugged on my heart strings” This saying is very interesting to me. Strings? As if our hearts were puppets? If so,  a puppet has a master. So who is the master of our hearts? And if something is able to tug on a single string, which puppets have many, does this mean we have many masters? Many things can influence our hearts, good or bad… they can be hardened or they can be ” worn on our selves” another interesting saying I’m sure we have all heard before too. Our hearts are such a fragile yet strong and complex emotional bundle of drama.

Where is this fine line of letting our hearts control us vs being in control of our hearts? Proverbs 3:5 Says Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding! Our hearts are vessels as well, what you put in it is what will come out!  Proverbs 4: 23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.  How do we, as this verse says guard our hearts? Philippians 4:7 says this And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus!  If the bible says we are to guard our hearts, this would suggest that it would need to be guarded of something… or some one!

There is a real battle going on right under our feet, it is not of flesh and blood but in the spiritual world of the unseen, the place our hearts live! How do we prepare our hearts for this battle?   Psalm 119: 10 I have hidden your word in my heart , that I might not sin against you. The word in this verse is referring to the word of God, the Bible.

If we are in a battle, what does one wear to a battle? Their Pj’s? NOPE armor! And guess what… God will never leave us unprepared for such and event! There is only one weapon we can bring to this fight!

Ephesians 6:10-18 New International Version (NIV)

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

In this line up there is only one of them that is an actual weapon. THE WORD OF GOD, the very thing we are to hide in our hearts, the very thing that will guard our hearts! The very thing God says he will do, if we take the actions to do it!

So why is it every time we are tired, stressed, stretched thin does it seem like everything is magnified? Little things that seem to bother us that would normally not? Yelling at the kids for something that would normally not merit such a response, crying at something that you would normally not. This is the devils weapon, he knows the mornings we don’t wake up and get dressed with Gods armor.  Armor is something that needs to be PUT ON, and put on daily. He takes advantage of our weakness. The bible says in 1 Peter 5:8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.  The hope here is that it says “LIKE” which means he is not! Which means he can and already has been defeated!

( As I was writing this blog today it was very clear the devil did not want me to write it. I was finished and as I went to post it, only  the first few lines were saved and posted. The whole thing was pretty much deleted! I almost wanted to cry, but didn’t. I knew right away who was at work here. trying to defeat me! NOPE not today satin, not today! So I got back up and started writing it all over again!)
