Plank of Life
Have you ever just reread all the things you highlighted in your bible? I actually do it often. To be completely honest I needed a bit of encouraging myself today. I have committed to writing a blog every day to help encourage others, even if I only touch one other person, it was worth it! I also wanted to create a positive habit of looking for something positive in every day during this time of such trial.
As Christians we are already walking down a narrow path. While the world runs down a giant golden paved road. This road is even smaller with the many things in my life that I am for or currently doing that is not what the majority of people are doing, not even most Christians. My road is pretty small, actually probably more like walking a plank!
Walking on a plank, if any one has actually done that… is hard. Arms out for balance, strong leg muscles and sturdy feet, for one wrong move off you go, plunged to the ground! Even if you have never been to the circus we have all heard of tightrope walkers. Over the years there has been some amazing and scary thrill seeking tightrope walkers that have done this amazing balancing act across buildings miles from the ground. Like the picture above by Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Philippe Petit in The Walk,
I think they are a bit crazy, but really we are all doing this in life.
Like I mentioned above I feel like I am walking a sort of plank trying to balance this life when all odds are against me. Looking into how a tightrope walkers masters this art was very interesting. The rope will always move in reaction to every step, Its all very sciencey believe it or not! Being in good shape and strong is not all you need. Learning to keep your center of gravity closest to the rope is the main key, not leaning forward or back, or watching your feet. Adding a balancing pole helps bring their center of gravity closer. Your posture, your stance, standing tall with your knees slightly bent looking forward. The pole also adds to the moment of inertia, like when a figure skater holds her arms in to make her spin faster…. it adds strength! To master this art you need this pole! A human needs help… hmmm
This pole to me signifies the word of God! Its our strength, it helps us find our center of gravity to NOT be swayed when this life comes and moves the ground we are standing on! Keeping our eyes towards heaven, keeping focused on the end! The light at the end of the tunnel!
This is our temporary home, there will be a time when there is no more pain, no more suffering! Keep strong run the race! If you fall brush your self off and get back up!
Hebrews 12:1-3 New International Version (NIV)
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
